Data Analysis (Econometrics) using STATA

Southaisa Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS)  organised Second Short Course on Data Analysis (Econometrics)  using STATA® (a complete package in a single course).

Announcement:

Option-1(Nov 22-Dec 3, 2013), Registration Deadline: Nov 20, 2013

Option-2 (4 Saturdays: Nov 16-Dec 7), Registration Deadline: Nov 14, 2013

With the huge success in the first short course and considering increasing demand for the advanced package, we are pleased to announce second course on Data Analysis (Econometrics) using STATA. A complete package in this short course starts from November 16/22, 2013.

Data analysis is an important component of research.  Contemporary methodological approaches give more emphasis on the integration of qualitative and quantitative research in order to better understand the social and economic problems. Recently universities in US, UK, Canada and Australia, as well as bilateral and multilateral agencies use STATA, as methodological tool, for collating, managing & analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data.

STATA is a complete integrated statistical software package for data mining, description, graphics and analysis. It is widely recognized as a very powerful tool in academia, business, governance and development sectors. A proper knowledge on the use of STATA is becoming increasingly essential for those pursuing advanced careers in research and decision making roles. Policy decision and its implementation are also highly influenced by such data analysis and research findings.

Who need this training course?

This course is designed to cater the needs of researchers, development workers at I/NGOs, graduate students, university faculties, evaluation consultants, government officials at M & E and research departments.

What do we cover in this course?

It is a rigorous training module. Participants will get maximum content in short period of time. We introduce basic skills of using latest version of STATA (12 or 13 versions) for data mining, data description, graphics, and estimation of econometric models and analysis of the results. The Course is designed to meet the research needs of participants’ from different disciplines and professions. Taking into consideration of different academic training and professional engagement of participants’, we introduce the basics of statistics and short introduction of Microsoft Excel in data analysis. This will be followed by hypothesis testing procedure and several simple and multiple regression models using cross section and panel data and time series data using STATA. The participants will then learn to present results in scientific manner. Finally we guide model development techniques, variables identification, and extraction of data from online databases, living standard survey, health survey and population survey.

What do you learn at the end of this course?

  • Data mining using STATA
  • Data description using descriptive statistics and graphics
  • Several econometric models and model development techniques
  • Identification of variables
  • Estimation of econometric models using STATA
  • Interpretation of results
  • Read & write a scientific paper independently.

Methodology

  • Slides presentation and readings
