Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies facilitated on 4th series of Dharan Paani Chautari on 13th January 2018. The fourth series was organized with theme of ‘’Ground water Recharge in Dharan: Policy into Practice’’ at Sunsari Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hall. Dharan PaniChautari is organized by Dharan Sub Metropolitan City and Dharan Water Management Supply Board. This fourth series of Dharan PaniChautari focused on different methods of ground water recharge and discussed on how these can be implemented into practice.
Addressing at the event Mayor of Dharan, Tara Subba highlighted that the implementation part is weak in Dharan and his effort will be towards effective implementation of policy. He shared Municipality has been collaborating in past days with SIAS and will continued in future too.
Ngamindra Dahal, Climate Change Expert and Executive director of SIAS presented paper on climate change and impact on water sources. He mentioned the frequency of extreme rainfall has been increased in recent years and it has become normal now. Kaustuv Raj Neupane, Researcher at SIAS presented different methods of ground water recharge and viability in Dharan. Mr. Neupane shared recharge pit will be helpful to reduce flash flood and help to increase groundwater table.
Around 60 people Municipality Officials, Engineers, Designers, Construction Contractors, Academicians, Journalist participated in the program. The workshop identified effective ways to implement ground water recharge policy. As part of program the demonstrable recharge pit was constructed at Municipality.
