Dhulikhel Paani Chautari III

Dhulikhel Paani Chautari, a discussion platform, has been initiated in Dhulikhel that helps to bring water related stakeholders together to discuss about the climate adaptive water management plans and strategies. Chautaari is a series of informal forum of which representatives of water related institutions such as Dhulikhel Municipality, Dhulikhel Drinking water and Sanitation Users’ Committee, Kavre Valley Drinking Water Board, District Coordination Committee are the members. The major objective of this platform is to facilitate the discussion on effective management of the dwindling water availability due to increasing urbanization and impact of climate change.

On dated 19 June 2017, Paani Chautari-3 was organized at Dhulikhel Municipality Office on the coordination of Dhulikhel Drinking Water and Sanitation Users’ Committee and Kavre Integrated Drinking Water Management Board and in a technical collaboration with SIAS. The objective of the Paani Chautari-3 was to inform about the project for the newly elected local representatives. In addition, this event was also organized to disseminate the information about the preliminary findings of the research so far and also about the technology of recharge pond for sustainable management of water resources especially of nearby springs.

The chief guest Ms. Bimala Sharma, newly elected deputy mayor of the Dhulikhel Municipality pointed out that the relevance of such kind of forum is very high as appropriate knowledge regarding sustainable supply of water can be discussed and coordinated with various stakeholders.  She committed that municipality will coordinate with SIAS for the research on the ground. She also added that the recharge pond should be made with feasibility study at appropriate places. Mr. Rameshwor Ghinanju addressed the forum with his remarks that coordination among the stakeholder is necessary to out scale the findings of the research done by SIAS.

Researcher from SIAS, Mr. Kamal Devkota and expert Dr. Roshan Man Bajracharya presented about the preliminary findings of CAMPS. They also highlighted about how aquifers are recharged with the help of recharge ponds. Newly elected ward members appreciated the research work being done in Dhulikhel. They were highly concerned about the sustainable extraction of groundwater through deep boring in the Dhulikhel area.
